Toyota Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty

Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive has an excellent and proven track record of durability and reliability. To underscore this quality excellence and extend this quality assurance to consumers, Borneo Motors Singapore (BMS) introduces the industry's first Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty (HBEW).

A typical Toyota Hybrid Battery normally comes with a standard manufacturer’s warranty of 3 years or 100,000km whichever occurs earlier. With effect from 7th June 2012 , BMS provides our customers an additional 7 years of Extended Warranty coverage* for the extra motoring protection and a peace-of-mind throughout the entire ownership of their Hybrid cars.

Transfer of Warranty

HBEW programme is fully transferable as it is pegged to the hybrid car. Regardless of the number of changes in ownership, the car’s hybrid battery will remain under warranty for 10 years from its original registration date under BMS. There shall be no restrictions on the number of hybrid battery claims from Year 1 to Year 5 and a maximum limit of 1 hybrid battery replacement within the 5 years interval from Year 6 to Year 10.

FAQs on Hybrid Battery

  1. How does a Hybrid System work?
The basic components of the system are the electric motors, the petrol engine, the generator, the power split device and the power control unit. The power split device transfers part of the power produced by the petrol engine to drive the wheels, and the rest to the generator to either provide electric power for the electric motors or to recharge the battery.

This system takes advantage of the energy-efficient electric motors when the car runs in the low speed range, and calls on the petrol engine when the car runs in the higher speed range. In other words, the system can control the dual sources of power for optimum energy –efficient operation under any driving condition.

  2. Can a Hybrid Battery (HB) be discharged?
Yes, a HV battery may discharge through natural discharge similar to conventional batteries when it is inactive for a long period (4 months or longer).

The THS-II can charge the HV battery with electric power from regenerative braking and the generator (MG1) using the engine power.

  3. Do I need to service and maintain a HB regularly?
To prevent the HV battery from discharging due to long term storage and natural discharge, the HV battery needs to be charged by turning the system “READY ON” condition every 4 months.

    Procedures:
    a. Turn the “POWER” switch to “ON” (READY OFF Mode)
    b. Wait for 3 minutes
    c. Then turn the system to “READY ON” mode
    d. When the engine starts, leave it running for about 10 minutes.

  4. How long does a HB last?
It is designed to last the life of the vehicle. However, it may vary depending on how the battery is used and it will deteriorate over time.

  5. What is the cost to replace a HB?
It costs approximately $11,000 to replace a hybrid battery inclusive of parts and labour.

  6. What is the warranty period for a HB?
Borneo Motors (Singapore) is proud to announce that with effect from 7th June 2012, we will offer the industry’s first Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty (HBEW) Programme that comes standard with every new Toyota Hybrid model purchase. With this programme, a Hybrid car will have a standard 3 years or 100,000km (whichever occurs earlier) warranty plus another additional 7 years warranty covered by BMS with no mileage restriction, subject to terms & conditions.

  7. Is there any restriction on number of hybrid battery claims during the 10 years coverage?
There shall be no restrictions on the number of hybrid battery claims from Year 1 to Year 5. There is a maximum limit of one hybrid battery replacement within the 5 year interval from Year 6 to Year 10.

  8. What are the available Toyota Hybrid models?
The available Toyota Hybrid models are:
    a. Prius C (Compact Hatchback)
    b. Prius (Hatchback)
    c. Camry Hybrid (Mid Size Sedan)
